9/1     Incredible mess at Vancouver Snake Pit and at the VPD: impossible to find anything about our twice tasered child, who called from Vancouver jail the day before, asking for a bail. “EDMONTON - A judge has acquitted a city police officer on charges he improperly fired his Taser gun at two men sleeping in an inner-city hotel room in 2003. Provincial court Judge Robert Philp ruled Monday the behaviour of Const.Jeffrey Resler may have been inappropriate and contrary to police policy. But he said Resler did not show the same abuse of powers a fellow officer did in the controversial case involving Randy Fryingpan in 2002. Philp said the two sleeping men may have been assaulted, but he wasn't satisfied they were assaulted by Resler or with a weapon. "I find the accused not guilty on all charges," Philp said”. Premier Gordon Campbell's former deputy and cabinet secretary, startled listeners at an FOI conference a few years back when he declared "I delete my e-mails all the time as fast as I can "to avoid scrutiny. In fact, e-mail is more permanent than paper, with backup systems and copies floating about among recipients. Some wonder if officials now censor their e-mails. The leaks coming out of children and family development haven't exactly painted a flattering picture of the troubled ministry's top bureaucrat Lesley du Toit. Last year, for example, we caught the deputy minister instructing bureaucrats not to use government e-mail to promote Bike to Work Week - a provincially-funded exercise program that has become an annual tradition for the civil service. And her memos about the ongoing restructuring process at children and family development seem to have created more confusion than clarity. So it comes as no surprise du Toit has moved to prevent the press from getting their hands on such documents. In an internal announcement, obtained by 24 hours via a freedom of information request, the former South African child rights reformer asks members of her leadership team to "ensure that any e-mail from me to you individually or collectively is considered secure and may not be accessed by your [executive assistant] or anyone else." From now on the leadership team will also "shred documents after meetings if they are not needed." And the ministry's "leadership binders" are now to be "kept under lock and key." Whatever could du Toit be trying to hide?" Doug Walls (shown at left) and Mike Millard pleaded guilty to the charge before Justice Patrick Dohm in Vancouver Supreme court this morning. Their trial was scheduled to begin next week in Prince George. The details on when and where the two men will be sentenced have not been released. The charge came as a result of the failure of Fred Walls and Son’s, an auto dealership operating in the city. The company collapsed in 1998 and the investigation began shortly after. Walls was an executive with the Liberal Party and is related by marriage to Premier Gordon Campbell. Shortly after the failure, Walls resurfaced, with a contract, with the provincial government, he along with the Minister of Children and families, Gordon Hogg, lost their positions in the matter. Premier Gordon Campbell   was asked to comment on the guilty plea and said "Obviously its a tough thing for his family, I think it has been an awful time for all of them, I’m sure.  Whatever he pleaded that is between him, his lawyer and the Courts.  So from my perspective  that is behind us, we are moving ahead.  We’re working hard to make sure the children in British Columbia get the protection they need and that families get the support they need and we will continue to do that."  Honorable F-case fourth Premier acknowledged our requests for help, as the Honorable F-case first Leader of the Opposition.  Nine years of the F-case precisely document how hard all informed and involved officials cover up their own, or their subordinates, supervisors and colleagues’ catastrophic incompetence, corruption and malice. 18/1    “A man who was shot by an RCMP officer in northern B.C. in 2004 was drunk at the time and likely died within 20 minutes of being hit by three bullets, a coroner's inquest was told Thursday. The inquest into the death of Kevin St. Arnaud, 29, opened in Vanderhoof, about 100 kilometres west of Prince George. Pathologist Dr. James McNaughton testified that St. Arnaud was shot in the hand and body, damaging his lung, liver and bowel, and causing significant blood loss. St Arnaud was being pursued by RCMP as a burglary suspect when he was shot as he crossed a school soccer field in Vanderhoof. In February 2006, the Crown decided not to lay charges against the RCMP officer. The RCMP said the officer felt threatened, and, when the suspect stopped and turned on him, he shot him. St. Arnaud was not armed. The officer, who had been with the RCMP for two years, remained on active duty”. The first thing those cowardly killers learn is verbal warning and then shot into air. 19/1    Incredible mess at Vancouver Snake Pit is permanent: In R 101 Sheriff insists that this case was dealt with yesterday, in R 100 Sheriff and Counsel insist that our child is not in jail at all. “Dear Honorable Judge, our child has very serious ATTACHMENT DISORDER, recognized by the Vancouver Police almost eleven years ago, when Yosef was twelve-years-old child and living in Canada for mere five months. This is not any excuse, as harming others for any other reason than self-defence requires a harsh punishment. A Vancouver bookstore specializing in gay literature lost its bid Friday to have the federal government cover legal costs it had accrued over two decades in a fight over the powers of Canada Customs. The Supreme Court of Canada decision sided with federal government lawyers, who argued the case was "simply not important enough" to warrant Ottawa footing the tab. If Friday's decision had ruled in favour of Little Sisters, it could have set a precedent in which Ottawa would have to cover legal costs for ordinary people who raise challenges under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms”. Officially the case is known as Regina versus Robert William Pickton, but make no mistake about it -- the guilt or innocence of the 57-year-old pig farmer is not the only question to be answered. This case brings it all to the fore -- only a panoply of publication bans covering the Pickton case has prevented an honest and open discussion of how the anachronisms and outdated legal culture have produced such a perverse process. Pickton has a battery of the Lower Mainland's top criminal lawyers mounting his defence. Already the costs to the public purse (for Crown, defence and the extensive investigation) are over $100 million and rival the controversial 18-month Air India trial for transferring money from taxpayers into the pockets of lawyers, experts, police and court workers. In an email sent out last Thursday, acting corporate operations director Anita Pangborne-LaHue advised employment and income assistance staff that the provincial government's new BC mark - "which features a rising sun, mountains and water," as well as the "The Best Place on Earth" motto - "will now be used consistently across government." As a result, the ministry is working to update all "external documents" to accomodate that mark. 24/1       "This morning, shortly after 10AM, Madam Justice Brown sentenced Squamish elder Harriet Nahanee to fourteen days in jail for asserting her rights under the Constitution as an Indian and refusing to apologize to anybody, including the court, for blockading at Eagleridge Bluffs. Betty Krawczyk, who had been acting in the courtroom as a McKenzie Fried of the court on Harriet’s behalf,  knowing full well the horrors of Surrey Pre-Trial where Harriet will most likely be kept, objected strenuously at the sentencing. Betty was forcibly ejected from the courtroom and refused re-entry. It seems that these great grandmothers are the only two who have refused to apologize for trying to protect Eagleridge and are the two who will pay the price in jail time. HOVNO, HOVNO SLAVNÝ SOUDE!!!“  An RCMP officer's testimony at an inquest into the shooting death of a burglary suspect in northern B.C. more than two years ago has contradicted other testimony, by his police partner and by a forensic expert. Const. Ryan Sheremetta shot and killed Kevin St. Arnaud after a police chase in Vanderhoof in December 2004. On Tuesday, he told the coroner's jury at the inquest in Vanderhoof he fired three times in self defence. He said he chased the suspect across a dark, icy soccer field, and that he was worried the man might have had a weapon because he was running away with one hand in his pocket. He testified St. Arnaud started coming at him, refused to stop and looked at him with a "death look." Sheremetta said he stepped back, slipped and fell on his back, and "scared for his life," fired three times while laying on the ground, to stop St. Arnaud, who was now almost on top of him. But Sheremetta's police partner, Const. Colleen Erickson has testified that Sheremetta was standing up, in a "police shooting stance" when she heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes. Earlier, a forensic pathologist testified that the bullets Sheremetta shot were fired in a downward trajectory, not upward. The inquest has heard St. Arnaud didn't have a weapon. His right hand was bandaged, and he was carrying a white plastic grocery bag. The RCMP investigation of the shooting said the officer, who had two years experience, acted in self defence, and the Crown decided not to lay charges”. 25/1       “Vancouver Police Chief Jamie Graham said Thursday two officers have been suspended and two others reprimanded for making a "trophy photo" of a break and enter suspect at the city jail last November. Police launched an internal investigation of the incident after another officer notified the chief about the photograph, which shows four officers posing with the suspect, who is wearing a white jumpsuit. One officer is seen holding the suspect, 40-year-old Martin James Wiegelt, by his ponytail”. Even Pigs and clowns in gowns must admit wrongs when facing prima facie evidence of illegal acts. 26/1 “Dr. Kim Rossmo, a former department detective-inspector and profiler, must suffer a conflicted, sour smile every time he reads about the Pickton trial. He was the man who warned his bosses that a serial killer might be hunting prostitutes in the Downtown Eastside. But in June 1999, the force was still saying those women could be living elsewhere - with the head of the police's major crime section dismissing Rossmo's theory.  So it took a little while before our beloved flatfoots - sans Rossmo, who was demoted and then left the police force in 2000 for southern climes and professional fame - figured out there might be some sicko out on our streets, honing his skills as a killer. 29/1       “A Vancouver drug and alcohol recovery house for aboriginal women from the Downtown Eastside could soon be closed because its funding is being cut by the federal government. The grant money for the Young Wolf Lodge will stop at the end of March, and there has been no word on replacement funding, says a spokesman for the group that operates the facility. The shelter in a Vancouver house helps young women get off the streets and clean up their lives. Mercedes Demkiw, who lives at the Young Wolf Lodge, said the prospect of the home being closed is frightening. "You know this program saved my life. I probably would be dead without it. This is our safe place to go. 30/1       “A three-member Independent Commission of Review has been established to conduct a fair and impartial review of compensation and pension arrangements for Members of the Legislative Assembly. The commission has been given broad terms of reference to collect data, receive public input and make recommendations to the Speaker of the House within 90 days. Results of the report will be voted on in the spring legislative session. “Fewer things are more difficult and controversial than determining compensation levels for elected officials,” said Premier Gordon Campbell. “This is why I have called for a non-partisan, independent review of salary levels and pension arrangements. The well-known environmentalist was given a last chance to defend herself in Supreme Court yesterday for her role in the Eagleridge Bluffs blockade. She could face up to a year in jail if found to be in contempt of court”. What's going on? 3/2       "In a surprise move, Arn van Iersel submitted his resignation as B.C.'s acting auditor general on Friday. The NDP members wanted someone from outside to oversee the province's finances. However, no one on either side of the house ever questioned van Iersel's competence or integrity”. AFN National Chief Phil Fontaine will signal that Canada's aboriginal leadership is moving to a more confrontational approach on the issue when he warns in a speech Monday that his organization is preparing to file the rights complaint. 14/2   “Vancouver mourned when a windstorm toppled trees in Stanley Park, but the city barely noticed when more than 60 women went missing from the Downtown Eastside, a relative of two missing women said Wednesday. She said Vancouver authorities and citizens for years ignored the plight of the women, many of whom have since turned up dead, including Johnson's niece and sister.

By comparison, Johnson said, a massive fundraising campaign was launched soon after a storm downed more than1,000 trees in Stanley Park in December. 20/2“Betty Krawczyk said she's been ready for jail time the day she decided to protest highway construction at the Eagleridge Bluffs. But she'll have to wait a bit longer after her sentencing was delayed until March 5 in a rowdy courtroom yesterday. At one point, yelling from dozens of the protester's supporters forced Justice Brenda Brown to walk out of the courtroom. The defiant 78-year-old remained steadfast yesterday as she arrived for sentencing, having been convicted of contempt of court earlier this month. "I'm willing to do this because I think it's important," she said. "I prepared for this before I ever came out to Eagleridge Bluffs and made sure I was ready to go through another jail term with a good heart." Krawczyk didn't hold back her anger with Justice Brenda Brown, however. Krawczyk also said that if it wasn't for women protesters, such as herself, Brown would be "making soup for her husband at home" instead of enjoying her "position of power." But Attorney-General Wally Oppal says it's "premature" to call for a public inquiry. She was 71.  On January 24, 2007, despite her frail health, Harriet was sentenced to 14 days in the Surrey Pretrial Centre, a men's prison and a notorious hell hole for women. It is believed she developed pneumonia during her incarceration and was admitted to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver a week after her release”. 26/2   “B.C.'s police complaints commissioner has turned down a job heading up an inquiry into the death of a native man because he says it might conflict with his current job. Dirk Ryneveld said Monday he was also worried about the "perception of impartiality," because he and his staff had recommended such an inquiry to the government in 2004, but the government had rejected it. The province reversed that decision last Thursday, and appointed Ryneveld to head the inquiry. 5/3  “The NDP has taken up the call for an inquiry into the death of 71-year-old Harriet Nahanee, an elder of the Squamish Nation who was briefly jailed in January for illegally protesting at Eagleridge Bluffs last year. Nahanee's supporters say her death from pneumonia and lung cancer may have been hastened by her nine-day stay in jail. MLA Jenny Kwan took the issue to the Legislature today, "Her lawyer believes that she might have contracted pneumonia while she was held in Surrey Pretrial Centre. Mr. Speaker, there are many lingering questions regarding her death. Will the Solicitor-General commit today to holding an independent inquiry." But Solicitor-General John Les is rejecting the call, "There is no evidence that she contracted any disease of any kind while incarcerated."  Like there is no evidence of Intentional Genocide of Native Children to steal their land, yes, Les and all of you, profiteers? When true justice will prevail, some deadly dangerous clowns in gowns and other “pillars of society” will receive long correctional services. 6/3     “Vandals have stolen the huge Olympic flag that has been flying at Vancouver City Hall the past year”. Bravo, good people of Canada! Any expression of Free Speech is honorable in Police State. 8/3     “B.C. Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Bennett has reluctantly delayed the planned April 2 start date for the trial connected to a police raid on the B.C. Legislature on Dec. 28, 2003 due to disclosure of evidence and administrative issues. Bennett yesterday set April 16 for the start of a three-week hearing on the defence's application for disclosure of Crown evidence.  "Just so we're clear, the public interest in having this case heard outweighs just about everything else," Justice Bennett told the courtroom full of lawyers at the end of yesterday's hearing”. The long-term impact of these practices has been a loss of positive parental role models, increased levels of incarceration due to cultural dislocation, and an intense distrust of state-run programmes on the part of Aboriginal women. Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond (1997) argues that child welfare practices have been state-sanctioned cultural genocide of First Nations peoples. 10/3”A coalition of local government officials and human rights activists have written to the Supreme Court of Japan to request an apology for human atrocities committed against the Chinese during World War Two. Chinese youth were abducted from their homes to labour in Japanese work camps and Chinese women were also taken to work as sex slaves for the Japanese military. BC's NDP caucus has requested a formal apology from the Japanese court for acknowledging and then denying these atrocities were ever committed. MP Peter Julian says these atrocities were committed and there should be consequences, "We believe an apology and compensation is the least that should come out of this process of recognition of the wartime atrocities that took place in both in China and Japan." What do YOU say to that? “Cab Number 43's passenger was taken into custody after police found a mysterious package inside the taxi following a road check at 132nd Street and 90th Avenue. The bomb squad was called to take the package away, surrounding homes were evacuated. After about two hours in extremely tight handcuffs (they got tightened when I lost my balance trying to board the Ambulance) I was committed, got lunch, absolved a 2-3 minute long assessment and was released at 2:30 pm, all this without any prescribed paperwork. But only less than a half of my possessions were returned. Estimated cost to replace them: $150:00. Policemen accused the paramedics of being responsible for the loss. That is standard policemen lying. The proof: all confiscated items were transported in their cruiser. Like other government agencies, the Law Enforcement Forces continue lying about me and my family to aid, abet and cover up crimes committed by the State against my child and family since 31/12/1997 to this day. He's calling for more enforcement and says Mayor Sam Sullivan isn't doing enough to stop the violence, "I made a motion to increase the number of police to 32, and that was turned down by the NPA. They suggested 17. Even though the police themselves were asking for 65. So obviously, you need the manpower or people power out there." A 911 dispatcher has been fired and two Vancouver Police Sergeants are facing disciplinary action after they joked about a call from a suicidal man that was deemed a low priority by the operator who took the call. Michael Sproule bled to death in his apartment by the time officers arrived more than an hour later. A Disciplinary Hearing will be held next month. Chief Jamie Graham says he's concerned about the allegations and says there is no place for bad attempts at black humour in circumstances like this one, that happened last September”.
